Postdoctoral Fellowships

Key dates and deadlines for research grant applications:

This fellowship allows exceptional early career researchers and final-year PhD students to apply for research funding to pursue a novel research idea and build their independent research portfolio. This fellowship is flexible and can cover a range of career stages.

Award

Funding is provided for up to four years full-time or up to six years part-time. This can include: 

• Reasonable salary for the Fellow 
• £20,000 per annum for research costs 
• £1000 per annum for career development 
• (optional) £3,000 for a 10-week research intern 
• (optional) £3,000 to assist with costs associated with an overseas secondment

Eligibility

Applicants must be postdoctoral researchers not already in open-ended, university-funded posts, or final year PhD students who will have been awarded their PhD at commencement of the grant or have equivalent experience at time of application.  

We expect the early career researcher to be the lead applicant on this grant with a senior research supervisor within the same institution. The research supervisor will provide the facilities and support to enable the applicant to complete their project. Supervisors must hold a position within the host institution for the duration of the grant. 

Applicants must present a clear, attainable career plan upon application and include how this grant will enable the applicant to pursue a career in dementia research. They must also demonstrate experience of engaging with people with dementia or communicating with a lay audience.  

Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and the host institution must be in the UK.

Remit

Alzheimer’s Society funds cutting-edge research into dementia. Applications are accepted for research projects addressing key unanswered questions within the dementia field.  

Applicants should consider how their project can contribute to Alzheimer’s Society’s strategy and research mission. 

Applicants must explain how their project contributes to the dementia field within these themes as alignment to our mission is incorporated into our scoring system at review.
