Health and Social Care Committee’s report into the delivery of core NHS services during the pandemic - Alzheimer's Society responds

Gavin Terry, Head of Policy at Alzheimer’s Society, said: 

'We welcome the Health and Social Care Committee’s report but its findings reinforce the need for greater integration between health and social care and demonstrates the vast inequalities between the two. 

'The Government’s response has to include people with dementia, worst affected by this pandemic, and worst hit by the continued failure to commit to a plan for long term social care reform.'

'While there have been some positive moves towards keeping people connected to their GPs and other services through remote consultation, this isn’t always appropriate for people with dementia and can risk them becoming excluded from healthcare. Coupled with dementia diagnosis rates dropping to an all-time low, many people are finding themselves unable to access the treatment and care they need.'
