Alzheimer's Society pays tribute to World Cup winner Jack Charlton
Jack Charlton, a member of the 1966 World Cup team, passed away over the weekend.
Fiona Carragher, Director of Research and Influencing at Alzheimer’s Society, said:
'We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Jack Charlton following a battle with dementia and lymphoma. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
'It’s tragic how many members of the 1966 World Cup winners team have been affected by dementia.
We’re so grateful for the support Jack Charlton has shown us, most recently in 2017 when he backed a children’s charity football match to raise awareness and vital funds.
'Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer and sadly people with dementia have been worst hit by coronavirus, so have never needed help more. Alzheimer’s Society is here to offer support and advice to anyone affected who needs it.'
