Our Future Health becoming world’s largest research programme of its kind

Dr Richard Oakley, our Director of Research and Innovation, explains why Alzheimer's Society is proud to work with Our Future Health, one of the biggest health research programmes in the UK.

Our Future Health, a research programme that aims to help people live healthier and longer lives, is hoping to become one of the world's largest programmes of its kind and now has more than one million volunteers.

The programme focuses on disease prevention, earlier detection and treatment, and every adult who lives in the UK can volunteer to take part, including people who have pre-existing health conditions. Taking part can also provide people with the chance to learn more about their own health.

Dementia treatment and prevention

Dr Richard Oakley, Associate Director of Research and Innovation at Alzheimer’s Society, said:

“We are incredibly proud to be a charity collaborator of the Our Future Health programme and are thrilled to have reached this incredible milestone.

Now involving over a million volunteers in the UK, the programme will help researchers prevent, detect and treat the highly complex diseases that cause dementia, earlier.

A call for more dementia research volunteers

“Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer and there are nearly a million people living with it.

“We need more funding, more partnerships, and more people taking part in dementia research if we are going to beat it."
