Fundraising
By signing up to this challenge, we ask that you commit to raising a minimum sponsorship of £2,600. This is to ensure we can raise as much money as possible to help people affected by dementia.
Pre event fundraising
We’ve broken your target down into manageable chunks to keep you on track. To confirm your place with us, we require some sponsorship to be with us before we can pay for your place. This is so the charity doesn’t lose money.
We'll be on hand every step of the way to make sure you absolutely smash these targets. You’ll have plenty of time to reach the final amount with the deadline for this not until 6 weeks after the event.
After you sign up, we will send you a welcome pack with fundraising help and materials. You'll also have access to our online fundraising hub with plenty of ideas, promotional material and more. We’re always just a phone call or email away and more than happy to help.
FAQs
The level of training required will vary depending on the individual. Ride across Britain provide riders with the choice of three training plans to download: novice, intermediate and advanced. All three training plans are designed to get riders at any level prepared to enjoy and complete the ride.
It’s not obligatory for riders to strictly follow the training plans we provide. Don’t panic if you miss a session, just ensure you keep up your fitness and “get the miles in your legs”. Some riders will opt to follow their own tailored plans or go on recommendations of others who have completed similar events – so there are other ways of training outside of our guidelines.
As well as training plans, each of their monthly emails will include a section on responsible riding. It is important to remember that the key factor of training is to get out on the bike as much as you can, as well as learning key skills that you will need for the ride, such as riding in a group. Therefore, it is advisable for riders to get some practice group riding, training on undulating terrain and even having a go at a multi-day sportive.
Private tents are provided at all basecamps but if you don’t think camping is quite right for you, then not to worry, you can upgrade to the Plus Package!
With all the same benefits as the other riders, you will be shuttled to a nearby hotel for 8 nights to enjoy the comforts of a soft bed after a long day’s’ ride. The final night of the ride will be camping, experiencing the infamous basecamp for the last night with your fellow riders.
Breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea are all taken care of for you. You can expect everything from fresh salads, mouth-watering meat, fish and vegetarian dishes right the way through to puddings worthy of Nigella herself.
Your bags will be transported from the start to your final destination each day. In your Registration Pack you will be given a luggage label with your participant number on it to attach to your luggage so it is easy to find at the end of the day. You’ll just need to drop bags off in the morning and it will be there for you to pick up at the other end.
Your bag should weigh no more that 16kg but upgrades are available should you need more.
You will cycle on average 109 miles a day, wth the longest day being 118.8 miles. To see a detailed version of the daily route, climb and distance head to the route page.
There will be pit stops approximately every 35-40 miles along the route for you to eat and drink. It’s also a good opportunity to sort out any mechanical/ medical issues you might be having.
To cover the costs of the trip the fundraising target is per person. We do encourage teams to sign up but each individual team member will be required to hit the overall target.
Only persons aged 18 years or above from the start of the event may register.
