Digital intercept recruiting people to a workshop about user experience

A quick, low cost, way to reach people affected by dementia, including people not already known to your service.

Digital intercept pop up on web page inviting people to get involved

The Purpose

The intercept shown in the picture above was created to help recruit people with dementia and carers to get involved in work by our Digital Team to learn about user experiences and needs.

Preparation

The Digital team decided to recruit people with dementia and carers who had recent experience of using the Alzheimer's Society website, so opted to use the digital intercept to be sure of finding people with that experience.  The software used for this was Ethnio.

What happened

The person visiting the website saw the pop up shown in the image above.

When the person clicked on the 'Yes I'd like to help' button on the pop up, they were shown another screen. This thanked them for their interest and invited them to attend a workshop in a few days' time.

The Results

If the person said they were available to attend the workshop at the date, time and place indicated, they then signed up using the form that then appeared, shown in the image below.

What changed for people with dementia and carers

People who may never otherwise have considered getting involved in such activity, or who may not have been reached through our existing service user networks, were enabled to have a voice and influence us by giving us feedback on their experiences.

Learning points

Even when offering a voucher and travel expenses, this may well work out less costly than recruiting people through an agency.

The request avoided time being taken up asking staff to try to find existing service users who had the right sorts of website and other experience.

The information gained to sign them up did not include enough detail to be sure of meeting all their access and support needs, but was sufficient to register their interest and be able to contact them to find out about any support and access needs to attend the workshop.
