Funding outcome

Award

Applicants may apply for research costs to support their project. This can include:

•    Reasonable salary for the fellow
•    University PhD fees at UK rates

Applicants can also apply for up to £25,000 per annum (maximum of £75,000 per fellowship) to cover:

•    Research costs
•    Part-time technician or administrative support
•    £1,000 per annum career development (including conference attendance, training, lab visits, travel)

Applicants are expected to maintain and develop their professional practice-based skills during the course of the Fellowship, and up to 20% of their Alzheimer's Society funded time can be spent in NHS sessions or equivalent. 

The award is available for a three-year, full-time PhD project, but can alternatively be taken part-time for up to four years.

Eligibility 

The award is open to all professionals working in clinical and health services looking to begin a career in dementia research. 

Clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals should have completed their professional training and hold registered membership of an appropriate body. 

Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK. The host institution must be in the UK.

Remit

Alzheimer’s Society funds cutting-edge research into dementia. Applications are accepted for research projects addressing key unanswered questions within the dementia field. 

Applicants should consider how their project can contribute to Alzheimer’s Society’s strategy and research mission.

Applicants must explain how their project contributes to the dementia field within these themes as alignment to our mission is incorporated into our scoring system at review.
