Alzheimer's Society announces two new Accelerator Programme partnerships

We are thrilled to announce two exciting new partnerships through our Alzheimer’s Society Accelerator Programme, designed to support innovative dementia products and bring help and hope to people living with dementia. These collaborations mark significant steps in our ongoing mission to improve the lives of those affected by dementia.

Tasty Spoon: revolutionising dining experiences with dementia

We are excited to announce our partnership with Tasty Spoon, which aims to address significant health challenges faced by people with dementia, particularly related to loss of taste. This symptom often leads to malnutrition or diets high in salt and sugar as individuals try to compensate for the lack of flavour. Tasty Spoon’s innovative technology offers a solution to this problem.

The Tasty Spoon™ is designed to rekindle the pleasure of meals for those facing taste-related challenges through electrical stimulation, making dining a more enjoyable and fulfilling experience. This innovation not only enhances the dining experience but also brings tangible health improvements by supporting a healthier diet without the need for additional salt or sugar. This is essential for improving the quality of life for people living with dementia.

Memory Lane Games: enhancing interactions for people with dementia

Memory Lane Games, inspired by personal experiences, has developed engaging tools to make interactions with individuals living with dementia through volunteer support, more meaningful. Their games, which cover a wide array of topics including hobbies, music, films, sports, and more, are designed to trigger positive memories and spark shared conversations.

The accessible, frustration-free design ensures that people living with dementia can easily find something that interests them and start talking about it. Their 2023 UK Clinical Trial showed impressive results: 92% of caregivers felt more relaxed, 83% noticed more laughter, 67% felt happier using the app, 66% of caregivers believed their time spent using the app was worthwhile, 58% saw improved communication in the person with dementia. The Mayo Clinic described Memory Lane Games as a “Simple yet scalable solution to impact millions of those living with dementia.”

Moving forward together

We are confident that these partnerships with Tasty Spoon and Memory Lane Games will bring tremendous benefits to people living with dementia. Through collaboration, we aim to make every interaction with people living with dementia as positive and impactful as possible. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting journey together over the next 12 months.

Thank you for your continued support in our mission to provide help and hope to those affected by dementia.
