The challenge
The Great North Swim is the largest open water swimming event in the UK. The event will follow strict COVID-secure procedures, ensuring the safety of participants, spectators and Great Swim crew.
Held in the stunning surroundings of Lake Windermere, England's largest lake at 10.5 miles long (17km), stretching from Ambleside in the North to Newby Bridge in the South.
It will be a fantastic weekend of open water swimming in the beautiful Lake District. With distances to suit all levels and abilities including: ½ mile, 1 mile, 2 miles, 5K or 10K. The popular event village will return, complete with exhibitor stands, pop-up food stalls and activities & games for all ages.
We have a limited number of charity places for the 1 mile swim only. Once you have signed up with us, you will be able to pick your time and day to swim, we will contact you with further instructions on how to do so closer to the event date.
You can visit the Great North Swim website to secure your place for another distance in this fantastic event - don't forget to choose Alzheimer’s Society as your charity of choice.
Fundraising
You will pay a registration fee of £25, then commit to raising a minimum of £200 in sponsorship. We will send out a free swimming cap for all those who raise £100 by 6 weeks before the event.
If you raise £100 by 6 weeks before the event we will send you your free swimming cap automatically.
Yes of course, we have 1 mile places available through us but you can sign up via the organisers website. Once you have your place you can use the own place button on here to let us know you want to fundraise for us. You will still get all the same support from us.
