National Dementia Strategies
Information on National Dementia Strategies in England, Wales and Northern Ireland
The Department of Health in England, the Welsh Assembly Government and the Northern Ireland Assembly Executive have all committed to developing strategies to radically improve services for people with dementia and their carers.
National Dementia Strategy for England is launched
The government has published the first ever National Dementia Strategy for England.
The strategy sets out 17 recommendations that the government wants to see happen to transform dementia care services in the next five years, ranging from more memory services, dementia advisers to support people with dementia and major public awareness campaigns.
How you can make a difference
With commitments to develop similar strategies in Wales and Northern Ireland, Alzheimer's Society believes these plans, if fully implemented, offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to change the lives of thousands of people with dementia and their carers.
However, they will require political commitment and strong leadership to make the recommendations a reality, and we need to maintain the pressure on service providers if we are to see real change.
To see how you can support and influence the development of dementia plans in your area please go to the England, Wales, or Northern Ireland
information page.
